PHNOM PENH – May 29, 2026 – For the third time in its history, Cambodia is playing host to a major international financial gathering as the National Bank of Cambodia, together with the Banque de France, welcomes 26 central bank governors from French-speaking nations across the globe.

The 28th Conference of Central Bank Governors of Francophone countries runs from May 28 to 31 in Phnom Penh under the theme "Central Bank Autonomy Facing State and Public Expectations."
The event is chaired by H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia. Keynote speakers include H.E. François Villeroy de Galhau, Governor of the Banque de France, and H.E. Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank.

Governors from Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific are taking part in discussions on how central banks can maintain their independence while responding to rising expectations from governments and the public in a rapidly changing economic landscape.

Cambodia previously hosted the conference in 1996 and 2011. The annual gathering was established in 1994 on the initiative of the Banque de France to foster dialogue and cooperation among French-speaking central banks.
