Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia Launches "Day of Reckoning" to Strengthen Patriotism

PHNOM PENH – May 29, 2026 – The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) has launched the "Day of Reckoning" program to inspire, remind, and strengthen the spirit of patriotism among young people and all Cambodians, turning past wounds into strength.
The program, held on the evening of May 28, marks a powerful step forward in cultivating the seeds of true patriotism among Cambodia's youth. As the next generation, participants pledged to maintain unity, dignity, and the highest national consciousness to help the Kingdom stand strong and proud on the international stage.
UYFC emphasized that while the previous generation ended the war through sacrifice, nation-building is the duty of this generation and those to come. In the digital age, young Cambodians must not only have knowledge and technical skills but also a steadfast heart for the nation, rejecting all forms of division and standing together as one for the national interest. The program's guiding slogan is "Transform pain into strength." The organization declared that past suffering, whether physical or emotional, will not be allowed to defeat the youth. Rather, difficulties and pain are opportunities to grow stronger. Key mottos of the campaign include "Together we think, together we act, together we take responsibility for the motherland Cambodia" and "One Khmer, one spirit, one destiny."
The date May 28 holds deep historical significance. On May 28, 1993, Cambodia held its first historic general election organized by the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), paving the way for peace and national reconciliation. One year ago, Cambodian soldier Suon Roeun was killed by Thai occupying forces inside Cambodian sovereignty in the Mu 3 area of Preah Vihear province. That same day marked the beginning of renewed border conflicts with Thailand, as Thai forces began invading Cambodian territory once again.
