Thailand, Vietnam Sign 4 Cooperation Agreements, Set $25 Billion Trade Target During To Lam's Visit

Thailand and Vietnam signed four cooperation agreements on Thursday covering trade

BANGKOK – Thailand and Vietnam signed four cooperation agreements on Thursday covering trade, technology, aviation, and education, as the two countries move to deepen ties during Vietnamese President To Lam's official visit to Bangkok.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and President To Lam witnessed the signing ceremony at Government House. The agreements include a 2026-2031 action plan for the Thailand-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, cooperation on science and innovation, a memorandum on developing an aircraft maintenance and repair center at U-Tapao International Airport between the Eastern Economic Corridor Office and Vietjet Group, and an academic partnership involving Khon Kaen University.
The two leaders also launched the official logo marking 50 years of Thai-Vietnamese diplomatic relations in August 2026 under the theme "Growing Together." During talks, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation on defense, combating transnational crime, online scams, and illegal fishing, while reaffirming support for ASEAN centrality in addressing regional challenges.

Thailand and Vietnam have pledged to increase bilateral trade to $25 billion annually as quickly as possible and to promote investment cooperation amid global economic uncertainty. The two countries will also pursue the "Three Connects" strategy linking supply chains in future industries, local economies, and green development initiatives.
The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in semiconductors, biotechnology, satellite technology, agricultural technology, and other innovation sectors. Anutin proposed closer collaboration between Thailand and Vietnam as the two largest economies in the Mekong subregion.
