CHANTHABURI (May 11, 2026) — According to reports from
Khaosod English, the Thai military is currently constructing a new border fence along a section of the Thai-Cambodian frontier in Chanthaburi province to strengthen security and improve safety for local residents.
The construction is located between border markers 52 and 54 in Pong Nam Ron district, covering a distance of about 1,310 meters near a permanent border crossing. Security sources describe the area as flat terrain with a clearly demarcated boundary where both countries already operate patrol roads.
Construction Details The new fence is built with reinforced concrete foundations and steel mesh, reaching a total height of 170 centimeters. It consists of 150-centimeter-high concrete panels topped with 20 centimeters of steel fencing to allow for better surveillance. Workers are currently installing nearly 1,000 fence posts at three-meter intervals.
Border Monitoring Thai authorities noted that while Cambodian soldiers have been monitoring and photographing the construction, the project is being carried out entirely within Thai territory. Officials emphasized that the work is a sovereign right to manage their own border areas.
Photos of the new fence have been shared widely on Cambodian social media platforms after reportedly being taken by Cambodian personnel stationed nearby.
