PHNOM PENH (Khmer Daily News) — In a farewell meeting at the Peace Palace on the morning of May 26, 2026, the outgoing Hungarian Ambassador to Cambodia, His Excellency Tibor Baloghdi, reaffirmed that Cambodia remains a close and vital partner for Hungary.
During the courtesy call with Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Ambassador Baloghdi expressed deep satisfaction with the flourishing relations and cooperation between the two nations. He emphasized that the bond between Cambodia and Hungary is rooted in a shared history that has evolved into a robust and close partnership.

The Ambassador pointed to the frequent exchange of high-level visits within both the legislative and executive branches, as well as the growing ties between private investors, as clear indicators of successful cooperation. These milestones, he noted, serve as a solid foundation for further deepening bilateral relations.

Ambassador Baloghdi further pledged that Hungary would continue to strengthen its partnership with Cambodia, supporting bilateral ties and cooperation within both regional and global frameworks. He also extended his profound gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia and its various ministries for their excellent cooperation throughout his mandate, which resulted in numerous achievements for the benefit of both peoples.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet highly commended the Ambassador’s active role in expanding the scope of diplomatic and cooperative ties during his tenure. The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the growth of high-level institutional relations and extended his sincere thanks to the Hungarian government and its people for their continued support in human resource development through scholarships for Cambodian students.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that while state-to-state cooperation is essential, people-to-people connections are equally crucial in fostering deeper friendship and solidarity. He reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to nurturing these ties across bilateral, regional, and global platforms.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister encouraged both nations to strengthen private sector engagement by organizing business study tours focusing on priority sectors, such as water resource management and agro-industry. He also urged Hungarian investors to explore further opportunities in Cambodia, noting that several potential sectors remain ripe for investment.
