PHNOM PENH – Following the successful first “2+2” Strategic Dialogue, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA.IC) has released the outcomes of a high-profile bilateral meeting between Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, and the People’s Republic of China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Wang Yi.
The meeting, held on the morning of April 23, 2026, focused on deepening the "Ironclad Friendship" between the two nations and advancing the building of a Cambodia-China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era.
Advancing the “Diamond Cooperation” Framework
Both Ministers highly commended the progress made across various sectors, including defense, trade, and infrastructure. Central to the discussions was the acceleration of several key strategic initiatives:
The Diamond Cooperation Framework: Ensuring continued progress in multi-sectoral cooperation.
Industrial and Technological Corridor: Boosting Cambodia’s industrial capabilities.
Fish and Rice Corridor: Strengthening agricultural ties and food security.
Support for National Interests and Key Projects
In a show of mutual support, Cambodia reaffirmed its resolute adherence to the One-China policy, recognizing Taiwan as an inalienable part of China’s territory. Conversely, Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s firm support for Cambodia’s right to pursue an independent development path suited to its national context.
A significant point of the discussion was China’s reiterated support for the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project, a priority infrastructure goal for the Cambodian government.
Regional Stability and Humanitarian Efforts
The dialogue extended to regional concerns, specifically the Cambodia-Thailand border issues. H.E. Prak Sokhonn briefed his counterpart on recent developments and expressed deep appreciation for China’s active role in promoting direct communication between the two countries, which helped de-escalate tensions.
Furthermore, the Cambodian side expressed heartfelt thanks for China’s ongoing humanitarian assistance, particularly regarding de-mining efforts and support for displaced persons.
Commitment to Global Peace
Both nations pledged to continue their cooperation within multilateral frameworks, upholding the United Nations Charter and international law. By fostering defense and security cooperation, both ministers aimed to contribute to long-term peace, stability, and prosperity within and beyond the region.
The visit concludes a week of intensive diplomatic engagement, signaling a new chapter in the "all-weather" partnership between Phnom Penh and Beijing.
