A Brotherhood Forged in History: PM Hun Manet's Vietnam Visit Celebrates Decades of Friendship
HANOI – June 8, 2026 – On his second official visit to Vietnam since taking office, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has arrived in Hanoi to celebrate nearly six decades of unbroken friendship between the two neighboring nations — a relationship rooted in shared struggle, mutual respect, and a common vision for regional peace and prosperity, according to a report by Nhân Dân.

This visit is not merely a diplomatic formality. It is a reaffirmation of a bond that has grown deeper since Cambodia and Vietnam established diplomatic relations on June 24, 1967. For nearly 60 years, the two countries have stood side by side — first in the fight for national independence, and now in the ongoing work of national construction and development.
For Cambodians, Vietnam is more than a neighbor. It is a trusted partner and a brotherly nation. Vietnam has consistently attached great importance to its relationship with Cambodia and the solidarity among Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. In turn, Cambodia has remained steadfast in promoting cooperation between the two parties, governments, and peoples.
Since 2005, the two countries have advanced their ties under the inspiring framework of "good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability." Political and diplomatic relations have served as the bedrock upon which an ever-expanding array of cooperation has been built.
The fruits of this partnership are visible in trade and investment. Vietnam is now Cambodia's third-largest trading partner and second-largest export market. Bilateral trade has averaged approximately $10 billion annually in recent years, reaching an impressive $11.3 billion in 2025 — a testament to the growing economic synergy between the two nations.

Defence and security cooperation has also flourished, becoming another key pillar of the relationship. The two countries have maintained close coordination at regional and international forums, while cooperation in education, transport, culture, healthcare, and telecommunications continues to expand.

Following the welcome ceremony, the two prime ministers led their high-level delegations to official talks to review recent cooperation outcomes and discuss future directions for the bilateral relationship. They also witnessed the exchange of several cooperation documents and toured a photo exhibition featuring the people, landscapes, and enduring friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, jointly organized by the Government Office and the Vietnam News Agency.

As both nations prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027, PM Hun Manet's visit and his participation in the ASEAN Future Forum are expected to inject fresh momentum into an already flourishing partnership — one that honors the past, celebrates the present, and builds a shared future for generations to come.
